Magazine joined Ten Story Relapse
CD release party @ Andrews Upstairs, Saturday,
August 9th, an event you couldn't miss.
Their new album "Frequency" was an
acoustic set with seminal influences like The
Smiths, Jellyfish, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and
Fountains of Wayne. Ten Story Relapse infuse
their music with peculiarities and lyrics that
are sharp and inviting.
In the summer of 1998, John Douglas and Mark
Milam began work on what was to be a melodic,
guitar-based, alterno/pop/rock cd (how's that
for a label?). With the simple trappings of
acoustic guitar and some poignant lyrical
imagery (credit: beer), a skeleton for the album
began to surface and Ten Story Relapse was born.
Two years later, their first effort, Tug, was
ready for mass consumption. Now, their much
anticipated sophomore effort, Frequency is
complete. Some band notes: Douglas, former front
man for the alternative rock band, Curious
George, handles all lead (and some backing)
vocal duties, as well as the occasional
percussive instrument. Milam, previously
paired with Steve Wray in the acoustic duo Take
Two, plays all guitars, keyboards, and (if you
don't keep your eye on him) belts out a harmony
or two.
All good lyrics and music for both CDs were
written, performed, recorded, erased
(accidentally), and re-recorded (after therapy)
by John and Mark. No one's certain who's
responsible for the bad ones. Ten Story Relapse
would like to express their most generous thanks
to Scott Patton of APC Studios, Glenn Schick,
Donn, and Oscar of Glenn Schick Mastering, Lisa
Milam of Convivium Creative, and, Chris Browning
of Systems Prompt, Inc.
